The biggest trade fair for games in South Korea, the G-STAR 2018, ended on the Nov 18th. The G-STAR Organizing Committee said that the total number of visitors was about 255,082 as of 5 pm on the 18th, which was increased by about 4.1% compared to 225,583 in the G-STAR 2017.
Battle Royale games and various new games got attention in the G-STAR 2018. Nexon Korea unveiled 11 new games and Netmarble unveiled 4 new games. KOG exhibited a demonstration version of its new game 'KurtzPel', and XD Global exhibited demonstration versions of its new mobile games, which are scheduled to be serviced in South Korea. As soon as the G-STAR 2018 was opened, visitors flocked to the new games.
Battle Royale games also received a lot of attention. Epic Games, the main sponsor of the G-STAR 2018, showed 'Fortnite', Kakaogames showed 'Battleground', and PUBG showed 'Battleground Mobile'. These companies tried to attract the attention of visitors. They invited celebrities to their booth and these celebrities played Battle Royale games together with visitors. And PUBG hosted the ‘Battleground Mobile’ tournament at its booth.
Other booths were also in tune with the Battle Royale games. Twitch exhibited 'Fortnite', and AfreecaTV broadcasted 'Battleground'. It seemed as if the ‘Fortnite’ camp and the ‘battleground’ camp compete with each other in the G-STAR 2018.
Also, several celebrities visited the G-STAR 2018. Ji-sung Park, a former South Korean football player, came to the G-STAR 2018 to play ‘FIFA Online 4’ against team ‘Mun-seong Park’. Tae-jun Park, a famous webcomic artist('Lookism’), visited the G-STAR 2018 for a fan signing event. Netmarble invited ‘Moon Gabi’ to promote ‘Blade & Soul Revolution’, Kakaogames and PUBG invited celebrities such as Kyung-hoon Min, Dong-min Jang, 'Mamison', Byeongjae Yoo, Hee Cheol Kim and In-ah Seol to their booths.
Cosplay(costume play) events were also held. The G-STAR organizing committee appointed the famous costume play team 'Spiral Cats' as a judge and hosted the 'Cosplay Awards' at the outside of BEXCO. And participants showed various costume.
Various other events were held. At the G-Con(Global game conference), famous game companies such as Blizzard Entertainment, Riot Games, Naughty Dog, Ubisoft, and CD Project Red participated and announced their know-how. The G-STAR career Fair was held for people who want to work for game companies.
