SundayToz's AniPang, which was a big hit in South Korea, is now shaking. A new product came out in 3 years and 9 months, and a famous celebrity was used as a promotional model, but the atmosphere has been not good.
SundayToz released AniPang4' in South Korea on June 30th. There are basic mode, which is 3-match puzzle, and battle royal mode ‘AniPang Royal’. In addition, they added a ‘pam’ system that corresponds to the ‘guild’ of other games. Promotional model is a South Korean famous singer IU.
The atmosphere before launch was good. 400,000 people registered in the first day of Pre-reservation. And that number exceeded 1 million in 7 days and was better than Anipang3. That number reached 1.66 million.
Right now, the atmosphere is not good. The number of users who enjoying the game is decreasing. Sales are also not good. As of July 10th, AniPang4 ranked #1 in popularity and 148th in sales on Google Play, 5th in popularity and 97th in sales in the Apple App Store, and 1st in popularity and 108th in sales at the One Store. This is in contrast to the casual game “Kartrider Rush Plus” released in May, which climbed to third place in Google Play sales.
The biggest problem is that the performance of AniPang 4 is worse than AniPang 3 or AniPang 2. As of July 10th, Anifang3 ranked 69th in Google Play, 185th in Apple App Store, and 100th in One Store. And Anipang2 is ranked 100th in Google Play sales.
The DAU of the Kartrider RushPlus that was released in May is 1 million, but the DAU of Anipang4 is now known to be about 100,000. This is very poor compared to 4 million DAUs of AniPang2 and 700,000 DAUs of AniPang3.
Originally, AniPang was known as a game enjoyed by middle-aged people. However, Anipang4 is somewhat difficult compared to the previous game, and it seems that the core content, Battle Royale Mode, is putting a burden on users. And, industry analysis suggests that a variety of mobile games have been released for nearly four years, and this has reduced the influence of AniPang at various age groups.
Of course, if you look at the sales trends of the AniPang series in the meantime, it took a lot of time to show the result. Anipang3 was released on September 27, 2016 and took about 11 months to reach the 11th place with the highest sales ranking. Anipang2 was released on January 14, 2014, and it took exactly three years to reach the 13th place with the highest sales ranking.
In addition, AniPang 4 placed advertisements in the game in addition to selling paid items. However, such advertising sales are not reflected in app sales.
However, the previous work did not carry out large-scale marketing such as using a famous celebrity as a publicity model. Compared to the introduction of a new system, large-scale marketing, and the name of Anipang, the performance of Anipang 4 is quite poor. Eventually, SundayToz's share price, which had surpassed 30,000 KRW before the launch of Anipang4, fell to 20,000 KRW.
It is also said that the myth of Anipang is over now because of the users are tired of puzzle game and the Anipang brand. And there are various competitive games. Let's see if the atmosphere of AniPang4 will change in the future.
