XLGAMES CEO Choi Gwan-ho revealed the review and future plans for the launch of 'ArcheWorld' through his SNS.
'ArcheWorld' by XLGAMES is a game that applies blockchain technology to MMORPG 'Archeage'. 'ArcheWorld' was launched in Asia on September 1st. XLGAMES CEO Jake Song(Song, Jae-kyung) also participated in the development.
For the blockchain economic system, Kakao Games’ ‘Bora’ blockchain was applied, and cryptocurrencies called ‘Bora’ and ‘Blue Salt’ (BSLT) are used. Users can obtain a currency called 'Archium' in the game and exchange it for 'Blue Salt'. ‘Blue Salt’ can be exchanged for ‘Bora’. Since ‘Bora’ is listed on various cryptocurrency exchanges, it can be sold for cash.
What is the performance of ‘ArcheWorld’ two months after its launch? CEO Choi Gwan-ho said, “A lot of users have been enjoying ‘ArcheWorld’ over the past two months, and game transactions between users are also actively taking place. There are 1 million registered users, and 100,000 of them have linked their digital wallet to the game.” He said, “The preparation stage to enjoy the game is quite difficult, but I realized that if the game is fun, any hurdles can be overcome.”
There are also regrets. CEO Choi Gwan-ho said, “Too many potential users have left. 100,000 people have linked digital wallets and games, of which only a small fraction remain to this day. I think this is because the game is too difficult. 'Archiage', the original game, is a difficult game, even for MMORPG users."
There were a lot of things that didn't go the way XLGAMES expected. CEO Choi Gwan-ho said, “I thought there would be more users and more servers than now, but in reality, that was not the case. It was expected that all the land would be contracted immediately, but only a little over half of the land was contracted. I think it was because the rent was too high. Above all, the price of ‘Blue Salt’ has risen a lot more than we thought.” He continued, “The share of PC games in Asian countries where ArcheWorld is released is not high. There would also be our faults and mistakes.”
CEO Choi Gwan-ho revealed his plans for the future. First, XLGAMES plans to add new functions in stages, and will open servers in new regions after stability is secured. A function that allows users to make their own items into NFTs and trade them across regions will also be added. In addition, he said that it would be good if it could support other platforms such as 'Ethereum', 'Solana', and 'Polygon'.
Finally, he said, "As I've said before, we don't think we can achieve great 'commercial' success with this game. But through our first blockchain game project, ArcheWorld, we want to create an opportunity for people to think about blockchain.”
