Nexon filed a copyright infringement lawsuit against 'Dark and Darker' in the US.
'Dark and Darker' is a PC game developed by IRONMACE located in South Korea. 'Dark and Darker' was very popular on the PC game platform Steam, and was scheduled to be released in 2023. Currently, the 5th test of 'Dark and Darker' is in progress in countries other than South Korea.
South Korean game maker Nexon recently filed a copyright infringement lawsuit against IRONMACE in the US District Court for the Western District of Washington. The defendant is IRONMACE, a representative of IRONMACE, and an employee of IRONMACE.
Nexon filing a copyright infringement lawsuit is somewhat expected. Nexon filed a copyright complaint with the PC platform Steam in March, and as a result, 'Dark and Darker' was taken down from Steam.
In South Korea, a police investigation is also underway. In 2021, Nexon sued an employee of IRONMACE in South Korea for violating the UNFAIR COMPETITION PREVENTION AND TRADE SECRET PROTECTION ACT. At the time, Nexon said, “We confirmed the circumstances in which the intellectual property rights of P3, which was our new project, were intentionally infringed. We think this should never happen in the creative industry. In the future, Nexon will strictly respond to this.” On March 8, 2023, the police seized and searched for IRONMACE.
IRONMACE has been announcing its position through the 'Dark and Darker' Discord page. After 'Dark and Darker' was taken down from Steam, IRONMACE posted a lengthy post on Discord. The point of the article was that IRONMACE did not infringe Nexon's copyright. However, public opinion in South Korea on this article was cold.
