NCSOFT continues to be an innovator in gaming, recently unveiling their new game “Hoyeon” and exploring new styles.
Despite facing complex challenges, including its recent restructuring, NC SOFT has actively maintained its gaming schedule. Last month, they released “Battle Crush” globally, and they are now introducing “Hoyeon”, a new title utilizing their core IP, indicating an overall pursuit of transformation.
NCSOFT's recent activities demonstrate their genuine commitment to gaming. “Battle Crush” was developed with close user communication before its release, with detailed development statuses being shared via platforms like Discord to foster closer user engagement.
The development team involved in various channels has been highlighted from the early stages of the game’s development, adding value to the new title with a different approach. The candid and straightforward stories from the developers are connecting more authentically with users, which is providing a clear point of differentiation.
Last week's newly showcased “Hoyeon” also included candid stories in its first showcase video. It presented not only the visual aspects of the game, but also detailed content and explanations, sharing the current direction in which the game is heading.
“Hoyeon” is an anime-style new game leveraging NCSOFT’s flagship IP “Blade & Soul.” It features the protagonist Yu-seol and involves an adventure with over sixty characters. The game focus is less on the importance of each character and more on the gameplay, emphasizing combinations and deck building.
The game shows promise that it will distinctly set itself apart from the current trends in RPGs. It is focused on PvE content rather than PvP, and the growth process is not about competing over levels or equipment. A variety of genre combinations are also offered including a turn-based play style different from the basic gameplay.
Subsequent releases have openly showcased the actual gameplay screens and mechanics, presenting all aspects of the game without holding anything back. The core business model (BM) has also been revealed. Centered around hero draws, the BM is designed to reduce the player burden by allowing heroes to be obtained through in-game systems or with currency.
Despite its internal challenges, NCSOFT is continuing its efforts to look forward by delivering honest discussions about its gaming ventures. They have shown a genuine effort to naturally connect with users and raise their expectations by offering authentic gaming narratives rather than superficial displays.
It’s uncertain what the outcomes of these ongoing efforts will be. Although there is considerable criticism from the current users in the market, these efforts could potentially mark the beginning of a significant change. “Hoyeon” stands as the vanguard of NCSOFT’s transformative efforts, and it is drawing widespread interest.
The game is set to officially launch on August 28th. With challenges to be faced in the Korean, Japanese, and Taiwanese markets, the results are expected to be seen globally. There is keen interest to see if NCSOFT’s new directions will bring a fresh atmosphere to “Hoyeon.”
