Neowiz, one of leading domestic game companies and the best FPS publisher, now reviews on PC online gaming services since it made announcements about series of terminations of its FPS games.
On January 31, the company informed users that S4League, an online shooting game, will be discontinuing its service starting March 14, 2018 on its official website and it also announced procedures for refund policy and deleting posts etc.
S4League, Stylish eSper Shooting Sports TPS, is the representative work that has been popular for 10 years since its service was started in December 31, 2007. In addition, the company was tried to release PSP Portable version of the game which was loved by players with authentic illustrations of recently deceased illustrator Panamaman.
It is the third announcement this month following the termination notices of FPS Iron Sight on January 16 and the other FPS Black Squad on the January 26. Dragonfly Games, the developer of Special Force, started to service the game for itself last July and Neowiz's publishing contract for CrossFire was terminated last year as well.
Iron Sight is a FPS created by Wiple Games whose CEO is Song Gil-Seop, one of the trio led to success of MU Online produced by Webzen. It is set in the near future providing fun for users and improving their strategic thinking. It has been serviced since December 2000 but it is scheduled to be terminated this February only in 1 year and 2 months after the launch.
Fortunately, Neowiz found a new breakthrough by distributing Black Squad on Steam, a digital distribution platform, last July in the desperate situation where the military first-person-shooter game created by its subsidiary NS Studio will be shortly terminated in Korea. It's been downloaded about 5 million times in six months and over 10 thousand users played the game at the same time. It will also offer Korean soon.
Consequently, Neowiz's PC online games are as follows: MMORPG Bless Online and Legend of Souls; FPS Alliance of Valiant Arms; baseball game Slugger; fishing game Fresh Wind and Bright Moon; and Card games including Go-Stop and Poker.
There is some meaningful achievements in mobile games against the reduction in the number of PC online games. Pmang Poker is the only Go-Stop/Poker game in the top 20 in Top Grossing and Brown Dust, a long-loved mobile strategy RPG, keeps making good results. DJMax Technika Q, an arcade music game, is constantly updated.
Neowiz recently signed an agreement with Epic Games Korea for distribution of Fortnite at Internet Cafes. Fortnite is a world famous shooter game which 40 million users play and Fortnite Battle Royale was officially launched in Korea on January 23. Users can enjoy the game at an Internet Cafe from April.
Neowiz, which reported about 190 billion won in revenue every year, is expected to earn 170~180 billion won in 2017 when the company experienced crisis, but at the same time, it had hope. Neowiz overhauled the personnel of its affiliates and revamped the organization at the end of last year.
The business strategy may be in a different direction depending on the success of the new games, which are scheduled to be released on the market from now on, scores of Frotnite at Internet Cafes, overseas performance of existing games, and streamlining its line-up of games that the company now owns.
"We had no choice but to terminate Iron Sight and S4League due to poor performance in Korea." a company official said. "We will focus on competitive games and improve performance with new mobile games, which are scheduled to be released on the market during the first half of 2018, overseas gaming services, and Fortnite services at Internet Cafes." the official added
