The stagnant atmosphere in the Japanese virtual asset industry changed at once. Immediately after the current cabinet was formed, a positive atmosphere was created in the virtual asset industry. The Web 3 Policy Promotion Office has been established, and measures to ease regulations on virtual assets are being pursued.
Currently, the most active company in the Japanese virtual asset industry is Com2uS Group. Com2uS Group joined the OASYS project, which connects game-centered blockchain values, on March 28, 2022. This project is a project where several blockchain ecosystems come together for coexistence. Com2uS Group participated as the main sponsor of Japan Blockchain Week (JBW) held in Japan. This was based on high expectations for the Japanese virtual asset industry.
Kim Jin-yong, the CEO of Com2uS Japan, said, “Japan’s virtual asset industry is stagnant compared to its heyday. Now the government and private companies are cooperating in various directions.”
At Makuhari Messe in Chiba Prefecture, Japan, where the Tokyo Game Show 2023 (TGS) was held, Kim Jin-yong, the CEO of Com2uS Japan, positively evaluated the current status of Japan's virtual asset industry. As the government decides to ease regulations, psychological barriers to investing in virtual assets are also being broken down.

Q. The global version of ‘Summoners War: Chronicles’ with blockchain elements received positive reviews in the Japanese market.
CEO Kim: Monthly sales in Japan reached 4 billion KRW(about 3M$). MMORPG is not a popular genre in Japan, so there were a lot of concerns before its release. I think ‘Summoners War’ achieved good results in Japan thanks to its popularity and excellent quality.
Q. Japan has recently emerged as a new center for Web3 and blockchain. What is the local atmosphere like?
The atmosphere of the virtual asset industry has stagnated compared to its heyday. Nowadays, the government and private companies are cooperating in various directions. I believe that the psychological barrier to virtual assets has become lower than before.
Q. Why are Com2uS Group and XPLA paying attention to Japan? Com2uS Group joined the OASYS project. How are you collaborating on this project?
CEO Kim: XPLA has not yet been listed in Japan. We are also carefully promoting XPLA. Information about XPLA is indirectly provided through the OASYS Project. We have established a comprehensive cooperative relationship with OASYS. The two companies are joining forces to develop XPLA-based content through OASYS. Thanks to this, it seems that Japanese users are interested in the diverse and highly complete content that Com2uS has.
Q. Are there any plans to list XPLA on the Japanese virtual asset exchange? Will cooperation with OASYS help XPLA get listed?
CEO Kim: There are plans for listing. We expect that OASYS' understanding and experience will be helpful in listing XPLA.
Q. What kind of business will be possible if Com2uS Japan pioneers the Japanese Web 3 market?
CEO Kim: Contents available at XPLA can be expanded to the Japanese market. It is expected that Com2uS Japan may enter into cooperation with companies entering Japan and will be able to actively develop business as a mainnet.
Q. How much do you expect the Japanese blockchain game market to grow?
CEO Kim: Japan is the third largest gaming market in the world. Public interest in new games is also very high. If XPLA and OASYS work together to make playing Web3 games more comfortable, the possibilities are infinite.
Q. Japan won the WBC. Thanks to this, the popularity of baseball games has increased in Japan. Com2uS Japan has released various baseball games in Japan.
CEO Kim: As for content related to the American Major League Baseball (MLB), Com2uS’ ‘MLB 9 Innings Rivals’ and Com2uS Holdings’ ‘MLB Perfect Inning’ have established themselves as top-tier games around the world. As players such as Shohei Ohtani played in MLB, interest in MLB increased in Japan. Interest in ‘MLB 9 Innings Rivals’ and ‘MLB Perfect Inning’, which are almost the only licensed MLB games, has also increased.
