KRAFTON has signed a license agreement with IRONMACE, the developer of ‘DARK AND DARKER’. KRAFTON is considering using 'DARK AND DARKER' IP for a mobile game currently under development.
‘DARK AND DARKER’ is a PC game developed by South Korean game company IRONMACE. The game started testing on the PC game platform Steam in September 2022. Right after the test, it received good reviews and became more and more famous. However, Nexon took legal action against IRONMACE in South Korea and the United States.
As a result, ‘DARK AND DARKER’ was taken down from Steam and released on the 8th through a game platform called Chaf Games.
KRAFTON said, “DARK AND DARKER has pioneered a new field in the global game market,” and “This contract is a decision based on respect for creativity.” KRAFTON has been concentrating its efforts on securing IP under the company-wide strategy of 'scale up the creative' from early 2023. This contract is also part of this strategy.
In addition, the rights to the 'DARK AND DARKER' mobile game that Krafton has secured are also affected by the conclusion of this dispute. In the worst case, KRAFTON may not be able to use the name 'DARK AND DARKER' at all.
“We’ve been watching DARK AND DARKER’s potential and distinct creativity with great interest,” said Rafael Lim, Senior Head of Publishing at KRAFTON. “From the genre to the setting of the overall IP, DARK AND DARKER tapped into something compelling with its existing PC release. Here at KRAFTON, we can’t wait to share these exciting dungeon runs with a whole new community of fans on mobile.”
