Wemade's new title, Legend of YMIR (hereinafter YMIR), is gaining strong momentum ahead of its global launch, with over 200,000 pre-registrations since sign-ups began on August 19. This level of global interest far outpaces the game’s initial domestic reception, underscoring its significant potential in the global market.
Inspired by Norse mythology, YMIR leverages the Unreal Engine 5 to deliver stunning graphics and a unique seasonal system. Launched in South Korea in February, the game features an expansive world built around the Ragnarok narrative, blending heroic storytelling with modern MMORPG systems.
Within 45 days of its domestic launch, YMIR generated $15 million (approximately KRW 22 billion) in combined revenue across major app stores and reached 600,000 downloads, marking another hit for Wemade following the 2023 MMORPG NIGHT CROWS.
■ A Proven Formula for Success: Replicating the Global Model of 'NIGHT CROWS'
Wemade, a rising force in the blockchain industry, launched NIGHT CROWS in South Korea in 2023 and rolled out a blockchain-integrated global version to 170 countries within a year. The release generated an explosive response, with 160,000 concurrent users on launch day.
The global version of NIGHT CROWS was powered by WEMIX 3.0, adopting a multi-tokenomics system. It introduced character NFTs that integrate player and character data, the core token CROW, and six utility tokens, establishing a distinctive tokenomics model. This success has been widely recognized in the industry for stabilizing the Play-to-Earn (P2E) economic model.
■ 'YMIR Global' Introduces Innovative Blockchain Economy System gWEMIX
The success of NIGHT CROWS’ global version has accelerated YMIR Global’s launch. Wemade will introduce an enhanced blockchain-based economic system for YMIR, centered on gWEMIX, a dedicated tokenomics currency leveraging blockchain technology.
gWEMIX can be earned through in-game activities such as quests and battles, with its value stabilized by a fixed 1:1 exchange rate with WEMIX. To support a sustainable in-game economy, the WEMIX Foundation has set aside approximately KRW 10.3 billion worth of gWEMIX as reserves, aiming to prevent sudden inflation or deflation and provide players with a secure gaming environment.
A standout feature is the server-versus-server system, where victorious servers can collect a portion of gWEMIX issued across all servers in the inter-server network as a tax, providing strong incentives for both guilds and individual players.
Additionally, the game limits the amount of in-game currency required for equipment crafting and enhancement, allowing top-tier rank items to be created as Non-Fungible Items (NFIs) that cannot be duplicated. Crafting and transaction histories are transparently recorded, ensuring item rarity and authenticity. This innovative system is praised for addressing issues like item duplication and illicit trading, which have plagued traditional online games.
The highest-grade legendary items obtainable in-game are issued as NFIs, each embedded with a unique identifier, creator details, and enhancement history permanently recorded on the blockchain. This enables players to experience true digital asset ownership with unique items.
■ Global Marketing Strategy Gains Momentum, Japan Entry in Sight
Wemade has opened an official X (formerly Twitter) account in Japan to broaden awareness of the global version. Japan, a major player in the blockchain gaming ecosystem, underscored its significance at the recent WebX 2025 conference in Tokyo, where Prime Minister Shigeru Ishiba declared Web3 a next-generation national growth strategy.
Japan is expected to serve as a critical foothold in Wemade’s global strategy. By operating the official X account, Wemade aims to expand touchpoints with global users and actively communicate YMIR’s world and appeal. Given Japanese players’ strong interest in Norse mythology, localized content and events are likely to generate significant synergy.
Wemade’s consecutive successes carry significant implications for the domestic gaming industry. By moving beyond traditional revenue models and building a new economic ecosystem with blockchain technology, Wemade has proven that games can offer players economic value beyond mere entertainment.
YMIR Global is slated for release in the second half of 2025. Wemade will continue engaging with users and ramp up global marketing to further boost pre-registration numbers ahead of the launch.
