LoL: T1 Falls to NS RedForce in Final Match of First Half — Interview Inside

T1 was upset 0-2 by Nongshim RedForce in the final match of Round 2 and the first-half closer of the 2025 LCK regular season. Following a previous loss to Hanwha Life Esports, T1 ended the first half on a two-game skid and settled into third place in the standings.

Organized by Riot Games, the Round 2, Week 5 match of League of Legends Champions Korea (LCK) between Nongshim RedForce and T1 took place on May 30, 2025, at LoL PARK in Jongno-gu, Seoul. It drew significant attention as mid-table RedForce, fighting for position, faced a T1 squad whose standing for the first half of the season had already been secured.

Nongshim RedForce made roster adjustments for the match, reinstating Jung "Jiwoo" Ji-woo as their ADC, alongside top laner Hwang "Kingen" Seong-hoon, jungler Kim "GIDEON" Min-seong, mid laner Syun "Calix" Hyun-bin, and support Son "Lehends" Si-woo. T1 countered with top laner Choi "Doran" Hyeon-joon, jungler Mun "Oner" Hyeon-jun, mid laner Lee "Faker" Sang-hyeok, ADC Lee "Gumayusi" Min-hyeong, and support Ryu "Keria" Min-seok.

The first set was a fierce back-and-forth. Nongshim RedForce gained an early advantage with a trap that secured the first kill, setting a strong tone. While T1 leveraged champions with global ultimates to create favorable moments in the laning phase, Nongshim RedForce surged ahead as the game progressed into team fights. 

Notably, Nongshim’s top laner Kingen dominated with Rumble, achieving significant growth. Despite T1’s efforts to break through with Faker’s Akali, they struggled to find openings. By mid-game, Nongshim RedForce’s momentum proved unstoppable, allowing them to shake off T1’s pursuit and claim the first set.

The second set was equally intense and complex. Nongshim RedForce started strong, dismantling T1’s top-lane structure through strategic plays and securing kills to pressure T1’s roster. Their aggressive movements disrupted T1’s ability to regroup, granting Nongshim RedForce control of the game’s pace. 

However, T1 refused to concede easily, mounting a resilient defense and steadily narrowing the gold gap while evening out the kill score. They capitalized on Nongshim RedForce’s overextensions and responded excellently in key objective fights, laying the groundwork for a potential comeback.

Nongshim RedForce's top laner, Kingen, once again proved pivotal, spearheading his team's momentum. Despite having opportunities, T1 faltered as their key players were repeatedly picked off by Kingen, losing their late-game power. Ultimately, Nongshim RedForce successfully secured both the Atakhan and then the Baron buffs, further widening the gap and ultimately clinching the victory.

This decisive 2-0 victory propelled Nongshim RedForce into the upper echelon alongside Gen.G, Hanwha Life Esports, and T1, securing their spot in the top group for the second half of the regular season. Meanwhile, T1’s loss extended their losing streak, casting a shadow over their preparations for the upcoming Mid-Season Invitational (MSI) qualifiers.

With the first two rounds of the LCK regular season complete, T1 is now headed to the MSI qualifiers. As the third-place team, they will enter the bracket in Round 4 and face a lower-ranked team in a best-of-five series. To secure their spot at MSI, T1 must win two consecutive best-of-five matches.

Q: What are your thoughts on the match against Nongshim RedForce?

Coach Kim Jeong-gyun: We didn’t prepare well enough, and that led to our defeat. It’s disappointing.

Faker: I’m sorry we couldn’t deliver a strong performance for the fans as we had hoped.

Q: How did you prepare for this match, and what fell short?

Coach Kim Jeong-gyun: We had limited preparation time, and I should have done more to ensure the players could perform comfortably. With the MSI qualifiers ahead, we’ll regroup and prepare thoroughly for the remaining matches.

Faker: We were generally outplayed by our opponents across the board.

Q: T1 is now headed to the MSI qualifiers. What’s your mindset going in?

Coach Kim Jeong-gyun: We have some time to prepare, so rather than focusing on one specific area, we’ll address multiple aspects. Since it’s a best-of-five series, we’ll ensure we’re ready in every way.

Q: The regular season has concluded. Any final words?

Coach Kim Jeong-gyun: We’ve always expressed gratitude to our fans, but today’s poor performance feels like a letdown. I’m sorry, and we’ll work hard to deliver better results in the upcoming matches.
