KRAFTON Intensifies Anti-Cheat Measures in BATTLEGROUNDS

KRAFTON has released an anti-cheat development log outlining the current status and future plans for combating illegal programs in its flagship title, PUBG: BATTLEGROUNDS. The log provides users with detailed updates on ongoing countermeasures both inside and outside the game, including enhancements to the AI-based detection system, improvements to the reporting tools, and efforts to reduce false bans.

PUBG: BATTLEGROUNDS has long maintained an ongoing battle against illegal programs. KRAFTON has consistently cracked down on cheat vendors who undermine fair play and has imposed strict penalties on offending users to protect a level playing field for regular players. In June, the company shared its anti-cheat roadmap, signaling its commitment to establishing a sustainable and fair competitive environment rather than relying on one-off measures.

This development log served as an opportunity to reflect on past efforts and outline future plans. The team shared detailed metrics across various areas and reaffirmed its commitment to combating ever-evolving illegal programs. As a result, the AI detection model’s detection volume has increased 2.5 times compared to June, while detection speed has improved by over 90%, significantly enhancing overall efficiency. KRAFTON also announced that it is preparing countermeasures for unauthorized devices on console platforms.

Improvements to the reporting system are also well underway. To better respond to illegal users who disguise themselves as skilled regular players, the Anti-Cheat Team has strengthened its video review and analysis processes based on reporting data. The team also reported substantial gains in response speed, including a 2.8-fold increase in monitoring staff and a 75% reduction in review turnaround time.

While strengthening its anti-cheat capabilities, the team is also working to reduce “false bans” imposed on legitimate players. A new system is being introduced that closely analyzes play patterns to improve the accuracy of distinguishing between normal users and cheat users, thereby minimizing the likelihood of wrongful sanctions. As a result, KRAFTON revealed that 70% of recent false-ban appeals were actually confirmed cases of illegal program use, suggesting that some cheat users are repeatedly filing baseless ban appeals.

KRAFTON plans to take an even more meticulous and proactive approach to handling false bans. While completely eliminating them may be difficult, the company will continue its efforts to keep occurrences to a minimum. It emphasized that these improvements will not be one-off measures, but part of a gradual enhancement of its cheat-detection models and verification processes—aimed at delivering changes that players can genuinely feel.

KRAFTON is also stepping up firm legal action outside the game. The company is working with investigative agencies across multiple countries to hold not only creators and distributors of illegal programs, but also users, legally accountable. Notably, through proactive and unusually assertive measures targeting cheat users, more than 100 legal actions were taken between August and October. This marks a significant shift toward practical enforcement that goes beyond technical sanctions and directly holds offenders responsible.

These countermeasures extend beyond illegal programs to cover all behaviors that undermine fair competition. As a result, sanctions for exploiting in-game bugs will also be strengthened. Practices such as clipping through terrain to secure a win without engaging in combat are clear violations under PUBG’s operational policies, as they disrupt the normal competitive structure and negatively impact the experience of other players. The development team will continue to address these issues while reinforcing its verification procedures.

The PUBG Anti-Cheat Team emphasized that these improvements will not be one-off measures. “Our ongoing efforts go beyond simply detecting or sanctioning illegal programs — they are part of a broader initiative to create systematic changes that ensure every player can enjoy the game with confidence in a fair environment,” the team stated. “PUBG will continue advancing its technology and refining its operations with the goal of building a sustainable anti-cheat ecosystem, rather than chasing short-term gains.”
